.: A Winterland Memory :.
.: General information;
.: Review;
Mikko Sandt, well known among the Duke3D-community as the admin of MSDN (link in his profile) has also created a couple of maps and mods, A Winterland Memory being his latest creation, released on the 7th anniversary of MSDN. Let's see what he brought us this time.
Worth taking note of is the fact that you can pick two custom skyboxes Mikko has supplied the map with for a better winter-effect. I took the one Mikko has advised to use in the readme-file of the map and it indeed fitted the theme of the map very well. The screenshots below are therefore taken with this custom skybox. There aren't any real major constructions present but there's enough to keep your eyes out. From the apartments at the beginning to the sewers and the beached ship at the end it's all done with not an overload on the details but it's surely done with great attention for trimming work. Even when using the High Resolution Pack there aren't real issues with the map where the majority of usermaps that aren't designed for the HRP have several issues, especially regarding spritework. Starting in a snowy cave you exit it and enter an apartment building to raid it for your first real weapon of the map, the shotgun, right after blew the pIggy away which was guarding it. Gameplay is basically the run-n-gun sessions accompanied with the usual keycard-hunting. Duke3D gameplay as we are used to so no mind blowing innovations. Is this bad? Nope, enough action to keep you busy and to add to that, there are two different endings you can choose. One is a one-on-one battle with the Cycloid Emperor, by choosing the second one you continue the gameplay and retrieve a lost aircraft. Plenty of entertainment for a good 15 minutes for those who would like to check out a good map. .: Screenshots;
